The River Mease

The River Mease - A Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)

Located in the heart of England in a demanding environment of intensive industry and agriculture the river Mease supports a diverse ecology.

There are rare and endangered species of mammals and fish found here. These include the spined loach (cobitis taenia) and the bullhead (cottus gobio).

The most surprising species found here is a population of otters.

These fabulous creatures and the outstanding quality of the water earns the Mease its international recognition as a SSSI.
